You will be lying if you said that you don’t like your floors shiny. It is an unexplainable feeling to look at your home every time you clean your laminate wooden floors, and it looks so spic and span. Freshly laid sheets, clean and shiny floors, properly arranged shelves are what I am talking about. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to cover how to clean everything in one article. So let’s go step by step and start with the floors and learn “how to make laminate floor shine?”
As the title already mentions, this article is specific to laminate floors. They are some of the common varieties of wooden floors. There are many types of laminate wooden floors like Herringbone laminate wooden floors, Basic laminate wooden floors, Fishbone laminate wooden floors, etc.
Do not worry; it is not very difficult to maintain them; you can achieve a lovely shiny floor by just regularly following some of these tips!
How do you Make your Laminate floor shine?
Method One: Clean
Ensure to clean your floors every day or at least once in two days because the dust particles that settle on your floor can give it a dull look, and sometimes these dust particles also damage your floor by scratching them. Obviously, a scratched floor will not have that beautiful shine, so vacuum and mop your floor every day.
Cleaning is something we do every day anyway, but here somethings that we overlook while cleaning:
Make sure you use a vacuum cleaner or a dust mop. If you do not own either of them, then we strongly recommend that you at least buy a dust mop as they are cheap, eco-friendly, and long-lasting.
Using a dust mop or vacuum cleaner will clean your floor gently while also removing the dust and dirt thoroughly. If you use brooms or other cleaners with string bristles, then they make scratch the floor and make it dull. Also, while wiping your floor with water, do not use too much water as it will damage your floor. Use a damp cloth or wring out your mop well before using it.
Method Two: Cleaning Agent
Use cleaning agents which are best for your floor. Every floor is different from another, and you will have to use different kinds of cleaning agents for each of these.
Using cleaners with harsh chemicals will only damage your floor, and it will not make your floor better. Do your research and find cleaners that are made specifically for your kind of floor. Note that more expensive does not mean better, so just pick a cleaner which suits you the best.
If you are someone who likes to use organic and homemade products, then you can make your own cleaner. It is a very easy process, and you can make it using ingredients that are readily available.
How To Make Your Own Cleaning Product:
- ½ cup White Vinegar
- ½ cup Rubbing Alcohol
- ½ cup Water
- Few drops of Essential Oil
You can see, we mean what we say, as these ingredients are commonly available! There is only one step to make this cleaner. Mix it all together! That is all!
You can use your favorite essential oil to make it a little better and smell good. However, make sure that you do not use too much of it. Add only 2- 3 drops of essential oil as too much can cause the smell to be overwhelming, and it will also make your floor a little greasy.
Once you have this mixture done, just take a cloth or a mop, dip it in this cleaner, and wipe your floor. As already cautioned, do not use too much of it on the floor as the moisture will damage it. Wring out your mop or cloth well before cleaning.
You can pour this mixture onto a spray bottle, and you can even spray small amounts on your floor and wipe it. Allow the floor to thoroughly dry, or use a microfiber towel/mop and dry the floor.
- 2 cups Water
- 2 drops of Castile soap
- 2 drops Lemon essential oil (optional)
- 2 drops Tea Tree oil (optional)
Mix all of these ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle, and that’s it!
Make sure you do not add too much of the Castile oil as it may also cause build-up and make it slippery. Try to store this mixture in a metal bottle so that it is long-lasting.
Method Three: Polish
It is best to regularly polish your floors. This also very simple, buff your floors using a microfiber towel or mop.
This can be done by professionals also, but it tends to be more expensive, but it is okay to splurge once a year to keep your floors shiny. You can also buff them yourself, but you will have to repeat the process regularly.
Try to avoid wax or other polishing materials as they build upon your floor and cause it to be dull and streaky in the long term. You can also make your own polishing agent at home, and you know we will teach you how to!
How to make your own polishing agent:
- 2 cups lukewarm Water
- 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
- 5 drops of Essential oil
- 2 tablespoons of Vegetable oil.
Mix all the ingredients together nicely and transfer it to a spray bottle too. The vegetable oil will help to create that shine that you expect. Spray a thin film on the floor and mop with a microfiber mop.
Note: it is important to mix the liquid well before spraying it every time because the oil will separate from the other ingredients and will not give the desired results. Also, do not use too much of it as the oil can make the floors slippery and can be dangerous.
Baking soda shiner:
- ½ cup Water
- ½ of dishwashing soap
- 1 ⅔ cups of Baking soda
- 2 tablespoons of White vinegar
It is the same instruction as every other cleaner as you saw earlier. Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly and keep it in a bucket. Apply this mixture to the floor and gently scrub it. Once scrubbed, take a clean wet sponge and wipe the floor clean without any residue.
Ensure that the floor is thoroughly cleaned or vacuumed floors because if the floor is dirty, the mixture will be ineffective on the floor.
Method Four: Plants And Pets
If your house is full of plants and pets, then it is more prone to scratches. Scratches make your floor dull, so if you have any indoor plants, then try to move them to a different place or use placemats that you can keep under the pots to avoid scratches.
There is nothing we can do about pets; you can only make sure that they have shorter nails so that they don’t damage the floor. You can also wipe their feet clean before entering the house after their walks as the mud from the roads can damage the floor.
It is only human for us to spill something on the floor accidentally. However, if you want your floor to shine, then you must act fast and make sure to wipe the spill immediately. Take a dry cloth and wipe and dry your floor as quickly as possible.
I think it was made abundantly clear that you need to have clean floors in order to have shiny floors. So the most important takeaway from this article is to keep your floors clean at all times! Work on different ways to keep your floor clean, and you will automatically see good results.
It is also equally important to use the right and appropriate products. Opt for one of the above-mentioned natural cleaners to wipe your floors. These are safe for your floors, children, pets, and everyone! Do not use cleaners with harsh chemicals that will damage your floor and your health.
It is indeed not rocket science to keep your floors shiny and spotless. You just need to focus a little bit on your methods and agents used, and you will be able to achieve beautiful flooring. You can implement every one of these techniques at your home and pick the ones which are most suitable for you.
